Here are some of the dishes i did during the weekends when i'm alone:

Gulai Tempoyak Ikan Sardin

Ingredients:
1 small tin of Sardin (Pick a good one)
5 Tbs of Tempoyak/ fermented durian
2 cloves of garlic
3 shallots
4 bird chillies/ cili padi
Stripes of daun kesum/ vietnamese coriander
2 cups of water
seasonings-salt, sugar, black pepper.

How to:

  1. Fry the sardine alone without its sauce in a pan. Set aside.
  2. Ground the garlic, shallots and chillies to paste. 
  3. Heat the pot, add all grounded ingredients, add the sauce of the sardin first. 
  4. Wait to simmer, add tempoyak and water. Simmer again. 
  5. Put in the sardines. 
  6. Add daun kesum. 
  7. Season with salt, sugar and pepper. 

Serve hot with rice. 

* i never thought tempoyak works with sardines but hey i had seconds. hehe and by the way.. why are daun kesum called Vietnamese Coriander? We have it in our kampungs too, even in my backyard in Kota Bharu. Hmmm
